The Witcher 2: Assassins Of Kings

Geralt of Rivia is back!
Geralt ... WHO?
We experienced some premise to update those who have not had the chance to play the first episode of The Witcher. Geralt of Rivia is a Witcher, a monster hunter. Ironically, he himself is a kind of "monster" is a human being transformed by the magic that has given him special abilities. For example, can take advantage of signs (magic classic, five in all, including the ball of fire, a trap for enemies, a shock wave, etc.), is much more resistant to injury than a normal person, it is very clever to use the sword (his legendary two silver hands), but the shields and to finish is a skilled alchemist. And Geralt, to earn a living, working as a mercenary in the pay of wealthy landlords who want to get rid of some mutant or monster. And here we arrive at the starting point of this adventure.
All (re) starts in a cell: Geralt has been jailed on suspicion of murdering the King's obviously a misunderstanding, Geralt knows who the murderess, and so be able to find a way to engage the revenge and justice.
This game, for the uninitiated, the video game is a novel written by Polish director Andrzej Sapkowski. And the plot is actually well done, which in today's games is increasingly rare: we always talk about riots, aliens, demons, in the worst case they are demons or aliens and alien-demons, devil, gun, guns, weapons and terrorists. That's it. This is the world's gaming scene. Instead, the guys at CD Projekt have selected an excellent basis for a storyline that was also a TV series in Poland. It is seen that the quality is there. This is a classic fantasy world. Or rather, has the characteristics of the classic, but there are touches and personality ever seen: the world is dominated by humans, there are no orcs invading here and there, only humans kill each other and Nani
and Elves, which is usually in positions of primary importance, are marginalized, they are outcasts and are even forced to live in ghettos themselves. There is corruption, prostitution, gambling, fantasy world is a dark, corrupt, almost rotten, I dare say. In short, far from the classic fantasy world. In some ways, the corruption that reigns more often playing reminds me of the corruption of Arthas in Warcraft. Remember? Hehe, good times those. But we must give space to projects like The Witcher, which conveys to the glories of the past a kind, that of the RPG now deprived of any of original speculation. Now when it comes out a fantasy game in the shops just say, "I bet there are Orcs, Dwarves, Humans and Elves go to war and a hero (me) must save the world from catastrophe." Is never wrong. We are not really heroes, even if we act by such races are different, but above the atmosphere is different. And I believe that already this could be worth enough to try the game.

Geralt ... HOW?
As I said before The Witcher is an RPG, but not the classical style. For example, a typical feature of RPGs is that you can customize your character. Here, the customization is pretty bland: we can find new armor for Geralt, but aesthetically it will remain the same. We can develop it using points accumulated through the level (the level may rise only with the experience accumulated in the missions and during the fighting) or by following three main groups: weapon (ie fighting in general), magic and alchemy.
And the chemistry is definitely one of the most important things about this game: using "recipes" found in the map or killed by monsters, you can create weapons, armor, runes on your weapons to be merged to strengthen them, especially potions and traps. There are lots of potions and powers have to go out winners by fundamental clashes. Can enhance the attack, vitality (used to parry and to use
and spells: have no mana!), the resistance ... there are many different types. Indeed there is one that allows you to see in the dark (the Cat potion, to be exact) and see the warmth of the enemies Dilà walls. Predator's face!
Returning to the discussion of the fighting, the battle to the white experience is the core of an RPG. The Witcher 2 has a combat system in my opinion rather poorly constructed. The controls, first of all, are not entirely accurate: I often press the button to block, but the parade takes place immediately after I was hit ... in any case, the combat system is definitely the biggest flaw of the game, because it is essential, but difficult to master because of the smearing. Fortunately, it is something that can be improved with subsequent patches, we hope! Interestingly, the combat model, however, is the fact that one can always choose to use that magic in real time by pressing a certain key, the game slows down exponentially, while remaining almost idle, so that you can choose what spell to use, where to place the trap as a weapon or throw. It is comfortable and effective in combat, because there is often a great need for alternatives to the sword that bear more damage, because the enemies are definitely nice tough. I may be little I could, but the fact is that the first battles of a difficulty seemed quite uncommon, died over and over again.
Res
Tando on the subject of fighting, sometimes happen to face an unarmed combat, punch up a classic, and will be different from the main battle (click click click!), it will consist of quick time events where you have to press the fact keys indicated on the screen at the right time to hit the opponent or parry. Nothing earth-shattering, but what good is always varied. Like the other mini-games in the game: nuts and arm wrestling. Classics that could not miss it!
THAT VIEW!
The Witcher is a game technically very impressive. The characters are all made in great detail (especially the female characters), the environments also (in particular the vegetation is really amazing). But what really strikes you is the breadth of open spaces: is seen at a distance of miles and as we see! Really beautiful views. Indeed I believe that such an aesthetic environment that surrounds the character has ever seen. From the start popping eyes saw the camp of the King in the opening minutes of the game. Something truly impressive. All this has a cost in terms of performance. The engine looks pretty pesantuccio. On the machine where it was proved Witcher 2 is shot at 1920x1080 with all details up to a little game called Shogun 2 without giving any problems at all (the features found at the bottom), while The Witcher is definitely a lot heavier and various junctures had a number of images per second is very low. The more so as to turn the videos you see I had to lower some detail because otherwise you could not even play. Had been more scalable would have been better, but the fact is that this graphics engine is impressive and provides a quality not seen in a while 'time.
The sound consists of music from traditional fantasy game and the English dubbing is also in the Italian version (only subtitles).

Ultimately, The Witcher 2 is a game with an impressive graphics component that will please the purists of the graphics, but also has a game structure that can fully satisfy even the purists of the RPG. In addition let's add a texture very long-lived (30 hours) is rarely seen today as a player and a very charismatic and the picture is complete. Surely the talk of the combat system that is not exactly top of the range because it penalizes the game is essential to have a perfect system in an RPG like this. Anyway, The Witcher 2 is a game to recommend to anyone who likes RPGs or other games set in fantasy worlds.
